CASA DE MIGUEL

6:30 am ... DING DONG!
The ferry is docked, we arrived in Heraklion.
The bus station is close to the harbor, i go directly to Stalis. The bus runs along the north coast of the island towards the eastern tip of Crete.

 

The whole coast is concreted. Stalis is THE quintessential tourist spot with beach bar on every corner. I rush into an alley connecting the beach to the main road. Just behind the bars and hotels, there is the site of earthen building. Between some small cultivated plots and small car park stands the Casa de Miguel!

 

Meeting in the morning with the crazy character that is Michaele, accompanied by Elsa, a young French volunteer also.
The presentations and explanations on the project are made, we continue the construction of the building. Michaele explains to me the principle of '' super adobe '. (See in ''Bioclimatism : Hyper Adobe)

 

For Michael, his desire is to build with 'hyper adobe' technique. Michael also tells me is crazy project to achieve an alternative theater. Last year he had already achieve a beautiful structure looking more like a house, but some parts of it collapsed during heavy rains last winter. Despite the damage, this has not discouraged our man to rethink his plan and that's part in building a dome.

 

During my stay, I enjoyed bringing my help, toes in the mud, carrying heavy buckets under heavy sun but the joy was still there. And we also had the chance to meet a lot of nice people and enjoy the life in Mohos town cooler, in the mountains with an amazing view. We had to hitchhike to go from the beach to the village, it gave us a chance to meet people and to have a amazing view on the coast every day.
