Besides having an extraordinary experience at Casa de Miguel in the heart of a touristic site of Crete, I discovered some wonderful places and many special people through the Island. First, when volunteer, we lived in the house of the grandmother of Michaele. A small house in the heart of the mountains, in the village of Mohos. We had to hitchhike to get on and off at home, this has given us the chance to meet all kind of people, both locals and tourists.

Mohos is a small peaceful village. Tourists pass by during the day but do not necessarily stop there. There is a main square lined with restaurant and during the summer you can attend a Cretan traditional festival every Wednesday night. It's really nice to see the old people out in the late afternoon, take a few chairs and chatting on the edge of the street once the heat of the long day passed. We could also see them in the morning leaving for Stalis and we had the customary to say "Kalimera '(which means good morning). We always had a good reply with the intonations and accompanied by a smile.

During the first week of volunteer we also went to see Michaele's friend, Adhonys, who lives in the mountains in the East. This man with his friend Manolis, has launched a crop very respectful of nature. They created from their own hands (no machinery) several gardens and attempt to recover better seeds and plant fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and flowers. For them, the law of nature exists in the garden, no weeding is done and it is really the strongest plant that will earn its place. This is a small year they were launched and the garden is already beautiful.

Here is a little window on this paradise, advises and comments of our druid Adhonys !

At the end of this crazy week of construction, we went with Elsa, another French volunteer, to the other side of the Island !! After six hours on the road and a dozen of hitchhiking, we are in Sougia. Small paradise. Our driver build her camp, we go to relax on the beach before starting a nice hike. I let you discover this timeless bubble, among full moon, goats and rollers!
